Technology and especially computer games became stereotyped and marketed toward men. Biases hold women from having the same level of exposure to technologies and tech related fields. With it being more socially acceptable and education in STEM field made more accessible to boys, they tend to have a leg up in the industry. With greater representation of men employed in tech companies, the ability to relate exists while women tend to feel isolated and sometimes end up leaving the industry.
